Help me get over you
Personality;;
Born wild and free, Esperanza embodies everything to do with independence. Strong-willed, feisty and sometimes a bit pushy, this palomino mare refuses to be ignored. Humble in appearance, Esperanza's willingness to put up a fight surprises many of the equines she comes across. Usually, it's not her intention to come off as rude, loud or pushy but, generally that's everyone's first impression of her because she's so unwilling to stand down. No one can tell Esp what to do and no one can tell her she's wrong, even when in her heart she knows she is. If she knows she's wrong, she'll work, sweat and struggle to make it right. Quick to think on her feet, Esperanza generally manages pretty well on her own which means she's terrible at asking for help. She has to be seriously down for the count before she'll swallow her pride and ask someone to help her, especially a male. That doesn't mean she hates stallions, it just means she tends to feel a bit more challenged by them, thus she will not trust them as readily as some mares. The younger someone is when they meet Esp can help her impression of them as well. Younger mares and fillies tend to get along with Esp, finding her energy and vibrancy amusing and friendly. Older mares that try to push her around or tell her she's wrong will find themselves on Esp's black list, a list that is very hard to escape. With the guys, Esp tends to be open minded toward younger males and is amused by young colts trying to prove themselves. Older males or males that are very demanding and authoritative are not her style. She sometimes comes off as a snob because she can be quick to snub males that might be interested in her but, what can she say, she's picky.
A soft spot has settled itself in Esperanza's heart for vitality, life and youth. She dreads the idea of growing old and slow, so she savors her youth while she has it. Always on the move, Esperanza's dream is to see as much of the world as mortally possible before her time comes. A dreamer at heart, Esperanza sometimes seems like a radical with her far-flung ideas and constant babble whatever pops into her mind. With this mare, there's very little brain to mouth filter left and she's made no move to change that part of herself, simply opting to spew idea after idea out into the world. Esperanza frowns on those that try to squish imagination and hope out of youngsters, choosing to instead nurture it, to plant the seeds and watch them grow. Her constant motivation to keep moving and live her life to the fullest leaves Esperanza with very few inhibitions. If she wants something she goes for it, if she likes someone she tells them, if she hates someone she makes sure they know it and if she believes in something that faith never falters. There's not much Esperanza won't say, do or think about anything or anyone. Sure, it earns her some broken hearts, gets her some enemies and even a few followers but it's made her life interesting which is more than good enough for Esp.
History;;
Esperanza started out her life as the second foal from a mare named Tally and her mate Rancor. Tally and Rancor were members of a modest little herd far to the west where the plains opened up for miles with few trees and mountains far off in the distance. Esperanza's older brother Brego had already left the herd to be a loner by the time Esperanza was old enough to understand she had an older brother. Since her parents told her about him, Esperanza has been very curious about him and pestered her parents nonstop about him. Sadly, they could never give Esperanza the answers she wanted about him which often irritated her. How could parents know so little about their own children? As she grew, Esp's curiosity and questions soon became the bane of the herd. Older horses would often snap at her to be quite or chase her off. A few young mothers, disturbed by Esp's questioning of everything from authority to why the sky was blue, chased her off when she tried to play with their children. Because of this, Esp grew up with nothing but the sky for company and occasionally the tolerant silence of her parents.
When at last Esp became fed up with her parents' intolerance, she decided to leave. She was about a year and a half to two years old at the time and felt plenty ready to be on her own. Since her herd paid so little attention to her to begin with, she figured it wouldn't be too different. Her parents instantly began to protest, claiming they didn't want to lose a second child to the life of a lawless loner. Esperanza simply pointed out that her mother was already growing heavy with another foal, that they would soon have another foal to coddle and try to make perfect. Still unhappy, her parents tried to stop her from leaving but Esperanza would not be detoured. She told her parents that she was going to look for her brother, Brego. To convince them to let her leave, she promised that if she ever found her brother, she would convince him to come home so they could meet their newest sibling. She managed to convince them that she would keep true to her word, though to this day she knows she'll never do it. Regardless, her parents finally backed down and Esperanza set out on her life alone.
Though she fully intends to try and find Brego if she can, Esperanza hasn't necessarily put that at the forefront of her mind. When she began her wanderings, Esp chose to simply take things day by day. She chose a random direction and set out, every couple of days changing directions a bit to see something new. She'd follow rivers, deer paths, mountain trails and often forge her own new paths. Esp soon found that she enjoyed the independence and confidence her travels gave her. She also came to value the skills she learned. Sheltered by her herd most of her life, Esp had to learn fast how to pick safe sleeping spots, detect predators and notice when the weather was about to change. Her first winter was the hardest, since she got stuck in the mountains when passes snowed closed and trails became too icy to dare venturing on. It was a long, hard winter and not an experience Esp looks forward to repeating since it led to her nearly starving. Nonetheless, she emerged in the winter all the wiser for the experience, though she has yet to really venture back to the mountains alone, still wary of the whole ordeal. These days, Esp is simply roaming. She's not sure what she'll find or even what she's looking for. If she finds Brego, she might take to following him around but if not, she'll maybe find Mr. Right and settle down, or perhaps simply wander until her muzzle goes grey from age.
A beautiful last goodbye

EVERYTHING seemed dead. The mountains were barren, grass didn't grow, the rocks themselves even looked as lonesome and empty as an old corpse. Dust flew hither and thither, seeking out unprotected eyes and nostrils while the sky was burned so thoroughly by the sun that it appeared white instead of blue. Heat pressed down on the foresaken strip of desert, intent on driving away any sign of life in the place. It was unsuccessful in its venture however. A single mare, fifteen hands tall and as golden in color as the sun continued along her path. Her hooves kicked up puffs of dust, her steps slow but consistant. The mare kept her head down, brown eyes blinking away dust whenever a hellish hot wind blew her way. She showed every sign of wear and tear, of long travel and not enough sleep; from her slow steps to her matted flaxen mane. If someone asked her why she didn't stop to clean herself up, she would just walk on by. She had places to go, people to see and no time for cleaning herself up when, within the hour her pelt would be the same dusty shade as it was now. To put it simply, the venture would be a pointless one and Esperanza wasn't a mare for wasted time. She had no love affair with idle things that would bear little fruit. She chose instead to chase the horizon, even if it meant going through one of the worst deserts she had ever lain eyes on.
Snorting softly to herself, Esp tossed her head a bit to keep her forelock from her eyes. Liquid brown eyes surveyed the dirty land as her steps came to a halt. Standing still in the oppressive heat, Esperanza tried to find a cool current in the air but found only a wind so hot it could only be the devil's breath in her face. Shaking her head, Esp turned her head toward the east, the land of the rising sun. She'd been traveling north for three days now, it was time to change things up a little. Stomping her hoof, as much an outward sign of determination as it was her gathering up her heat-addled wits, Esperanza set off. For several yards she kept up her previous slow trundling walk before lengthening her stride to a proper walk, then a trot and then a canter. She wasn't a tall, fluid mare, but she was sturdy in build and made for distance. In this, she excelled. Thus, Esp chose to pace herself, cantering before slowly bringing herself up to a full gallop. At a gallop, the hellish wind was almost a caress, tugging itself through her mane while her hooves beat out a steady thundering rhythm that echoed for miles.
